“The SmartShow Pixel Panels fit together like a jigsaw puzzle – you can’t go wrong!”

Our Pixel Panels have specially sized slots and recesses so that they will always align correctly when putting two or more together.

There are several options for powering, passing pixel data in, passing pixel data from panel to panel, and last pixel data out.

There are also 4 fixing holes so the panel can be screwed down.

The pixels on each panel are 10mm pitch in both directions; the interlocking jigsaw panel edges allow that pitch to remain constant across all panels, without any visual disruption in the flow of LEDs.

“Making a custom pixel P10 panel has never been easier”

Each panel is made from 1.6mm FR4 PCB, making it very tough and durable, without the potential issues that Flexible Pixel Panels have.

Pluggable-Screw terminal connectors can be purchased from our accessories page, which can be soldered into the rear of the panel, which will allow it to be hardwired using decent gauge cables, which can loop through to the next panel.

Connectors & Power

  • On the rear, there are 2 placements for 3-way 5.04mm pitch connectors; these could be screw terminals soldered directly, or pluggable screw terminals, which we offer in our accessories section.
  • These two connections are POWER/DATA-IN/GROUND, and POWER/DATA-OUT/GROUND; the maximum voltage that should be connected across the power is 5V.
  • The Data-In signal should be a 5V (TTL) logic level signal, typical 800KHz pixel data NRZ-Encoded.
  • There are pads placed on the front side of the PCB where the 5V and 0V/Ground can connect across from board to board, this is very useful to complete when making a matrix, as this allows the current path to be shared across multiple points of contact.
  • On the front of the board, there are also 2 x DI (bottom left) and 3 x DO pads (two top left, one bottom right), you only need to connect particular ones of these when you are running the data from one board to the next – DO NOT CONNECT ALL OF THEM ACROSS, just one.
  • Please see the images for the connection methods between panels.

RGB Pixel Data

There is a reason why 169 pixels (13 x 13) was chosen for this design: firstly, to ensure that each matrix is square, and secondly, this number fits perfectly when driving these panels from an Art-Net or sACN source. With those protocols, we have 512 channels per universe available, and since we can’t get that number exactly from our channel count, we can get close: 169 pixels x 3 channels = 507 channels required per RGB Panel.

RGBW Pixel Data

When using the RGBW Pixel Panels, the channel count doesn’t work as well as the RGB Panels. We have 169 pixels x 4 channels = 676 channels, which doesn’t really fit our 512-channel universes. There are some pixel controllers (including the SmartShow Pro-ONE and NetDMX-POE) that can take in 3-channel RGB data and output the pixel data as 4-channel RGBW data, so now our channel count fits again.
